Cookie policy

Draft. Sikhaku has not launched. This describes the cookies we intend to set. The final list will be published before the first course goes on sale, and if it differs from this one, this page changes first.

The short version

We set as few cookies as we can get away with. The ones we do set keep you signed in, keep your cart intact through checkout, and tell us which pages are worth keeping. There are no advertising cookies, no cross-site trackers, and nothing that follows you off Sikhaku.

What a cookie is

A cookie is a small file a site asks your browser to keep and hand back on your next visit. It is how a website remembers that you are the same person who signed in a minute ago. Similar technologies — local storage, and the small amount of data a video player keeps to resume playback — are covered by this policy too, because from your point of view they do the same job.

Which ones we set

Strictly necessary. These cannot be switched off, because without them the parts of the site that need to know who you are simply do not work.

• Session — keeps you signed in between pages. Without it you would have to log in on every click.
• Security — a token that proves a form submission came from you and not from another site posting on your behalf.
• Checkout — holds the course you are buying while payment completes, so a slow confirmation does not lose the purchase.
• Preferences — remembers your language and whether you chose a dark or light theme.

Analytics. Aggregated, and only to answer questions like which lesson people abandon or which page loads too slowly. We do not use analytics cookies to build a profile of you, and we do not join that data to your account to work out who you are.

Third-party cookies

Two places where another company’s cookies can reach you through us, both unavoidable and both limited:

• Your payment provider. Checkout hands you to your wallet, bank or card network, which sets its own cookies on its own pages under its own policy. We never see them.
• Video delivery. Lessons are served from a content delivery network, which may set a cookie to authorise playback of a course you own. It is not used for advertising.

We do not embed social media widgets, comment systems or share buttons that load third-party scripts, because each one is a tracker in a costume.

How to refuse them

Every browser lets you block or delete cookies, usually under Settings, then Privacy. Blocking the strictly necessary ones means you cannot stay signed in or complete a purchase — that is not us being difficult, it is what those cookies do. Everything you can read without an account stays readable.

Where consent is required for non-essential cookies, we ask before setting them, and refusing is a single click rather than a walk through a preferences maze.

Changes

If we add a cookie, this page changes before the cookie ships. The date at the top is the last time anything here changed. Questions go to hello@sikhaku.com.
